The most recent chapter of our story began in October 2025, when Scott Taylor announced the sale of our Le Mars store to Coleman Automotive Group, the Spirit Lake-based dealership group led by CEO Kyle Coleman. With the acquisition came a new name on the building: Le Mars Chevrolet GMC. For our customers, the change delivered the best of both worlds.
Every single team member from the Total Motors era stayed with us through the transition. The people you already know and trust are still here to greet you.
As part of Coleman Automotive Group, which includes established dealerships in Spirit Lake and Estherville, our Le Mars store now draws on far greater inventory resources.
The partnership also brought fresh infrastructure, a bigger selection of new and pre-owned vehicles, and new optimized digital shopping tools. The result is small-town customer care for Le Mars area drivers, backed by the capabilities of a much larger dealership group.
To support the next generation of driving, Coleman is installing advanced Level 2 and Level 3 DC fast-charging stations directly on our Le Mars lot. Our dealership at 801 Hawkeye Ave SW in Le Mars, Iowa has spent decades growing to better serve local drivers. The name out front has changed a few times over the years, from Motor City to Total Motors and now under the Coleman family, but our foundational promise has never changed: honest, hometown service backed by the strength of General Motors.
Long before today's showroom, our location laid its foundation under different banners, including a legacy tied to Motor City and the regional Motor Inn Group. The dealership was previously owned by Motor Inn of Le Mars, and during those early years it earned a reputation for offering reliable transportation to the hardworking families of Northwest Iowa.
Running a dealership in the "Ice Cream Capital of the World" calls for a real commitment to neighborhood values. Through shifting automotive landscapes and changing tastes, our Hawkeye Avenue storefront stayed a local fixture where neighbors helped neighbors find the right family car or farm truck.
Total Motors became a recognizable independent name in the Le Mars business community beginning in 2009.
In August 2016, the dealership officially transitioned to Total Motors under the ownership of Scott Taylor. On August 5, 2016, the new era took over, and the rest is history. The acquisition allowed the business to fully step into its identity as a franchised Chevrolet and GMC destination.
For nearly a decade, our facility grew significantly. We built one of the largest and most respected collision and body repair centers in Plymouth County, expanded our service bays, and earned an incredibly loyal customer following.
